Ludacris New Album Dropping
12.15.05 (5:44 pm) [edit]
Despite a very loud single, Ludacris has had a rather quiet 2005. But don’t for a minute think it wasn’t planned that way. Luda worked his executive game by branding Bobby Valentino and signing Field Mob. He also impressed people outside the realm of Hip-Hop with two major acting roles. But if you thought Rap was peaceful without Luda and DTP, he’s preparing to lead-off 2006 with a smash for him and his team...

Rappers Shot Up In Boston
12.15.05 (2:39 pm) [edit]
Four young men were shot and killed in the basement of a home recording studio in the Dorchester section of Boston, Mass earlier this week.
Three of the victims, Edwin "E.J." Duncan, 21, Christopher "Fat Boy" Vieira, 19, and Jason "J" Bachiller, 21, were part of Graveside, a promising rap group who documented Bean Town's violent streets in songs.
"Their songs were violent, horrific, gun-talk music, but they were very good kids," Peter Parker, a 97.7 WILD- FM personality told the Boston Herald. "They were dictating what they saw around them, but they weren't participating in it. It was a Schwarzenegger movie - pure fantasy. They were working their asses off. They were trying to get a record deal. If you'd given them another year, year and a half, they would have been fine."
The other victim, Jihad Chankour, 22, was a friend of Vieira's and had accompanied the aspiring rapper to Duncan's home.
Reports say the youngsters were waiting for the other group members to arrive when the shooting occurred. Three of the victims died on the site while the fourth one later succumbed to gun shot wounds at Boston Medical Center.
Superintendent Daniel Coleman, commander of Boston's homicide unit, said the victims most likely weren't gang affiliated.
The police are presently asking the public to help them find a 1998 black Ford Escort hatchback with tinted windows that was driven by one of the victims prior to the killing. Police thinks the suspect may have taken the vehicle.
"This vehicle would be an important step in this investigation," Coleman told The Associated Press. The killings boosted Boston's murders to 71 for the year, the highest in a decade.
A shocked Ted Campbell, the coordinator of a nearby studio, said the house was known as a "safe haven" for teenagers to hang out and make music.
Boston's rising murders recently caused city cops to work overtime looking for suspects involved in incidents with violence and guns. Last week, U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan said the government will hike prosecutions of suspects who take part in gang violence in Boston.

50 Cent Ready To Shoot, Film Not Guns
12.15.05 (2:36 pm) [edit]
After successful ventures into video games, fashion and acting, the rapper also known as Curtis "Interscope" Jackson recently completed a development deal with Sony to produce films.
"When I come across a screenplay that's as exciting as my life story, then I will commit to it," 50 recently told MTV Europe.
This won't be 50's first experience with production. The rapper previously worked with Digital Sin and G-Unit Adult Films to produce Groupie Love, an award-winning interactive DVD offering a peek into the X-rated lifestyle of a rapper.
Although 50 does not currently have any works in queue for production, he has voiced plans to turn his forthcoming G-Unit series of fiction books into DVD films, if not theatrical releases. The G-Unit books are slated for publication in 2007.
50 has already penned a chronicle of his rise to rap superstardom, entitled Pieces to Weight: Once Upon a Time in Southside, Queens.

More About the 50 Cent Shooting
12.12.05 (8:49 am) [edit]
The May 2000 shooting of rapper 50 Cent will be introduced as evidence against The Inc. associate, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, who is facing the death penalty in March 2006 on racketeering, narcotics and murder charges
On Friday (Dec. 12), the U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed they will introduce evidence that McGriff was involved in 50 Cent's shooting in 2000.
This also opens up the possibility that 50 himself will be subpoenaed to testify in court.
Federal prosecutors alleged that McGriff laundered his drug proceeds through companies controlled by The Inc.’s Irv and Chris Lorenzo, charges the brothers were recently vindicated of in a highly publicized trial.
50 Cent was shot in May 2000. Early descriptions described the shooter as a black male in a black short sleeved shirt, with a stocky build.
Prosecutors allege 50 was shot for name checking McGriff and other Queens, New York drug dealers and for feuding with The Inc.’s Ja Rule.
Attorneys for the government unsuccessfully attempted to introduce 50 Cent’s shooting in the trial of the Lorenzo brothers, alleging that Ja Rule’s bodyguard, Robert “Sun” Lyons was the triggerman behind the May 2000 shooting, on orders of McGriff.
50 Cent has stated in numerous interviews and on records that the shooter was Darryl “Hommo” Baum.
Baum was later allegedly murdered on orders of Lil’ Kim’s ex-boyfriend Damion “World” Hardy in an unrelated retaliatory slaying.
50 Cent’s feud with The Inc. and his subsequent shooting in 2000, New York, helped catapult the rapper to superstardom.
“Evidence related to 50's shooting was introduced into Irv and Chris Gotti's trial but was thrown out by the judge because it was ruled irrelevant to their case,” author Ethan Brown told AllHipHop.com.
Brown is the author of “Queens Reigns Supreme : Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip Hop Hustler,” a detailed look into McGriff’s Supreme Team drug dealing crew, other Queens New York drug dealers and their connection to various players in the Hip-Hop world.
“It makes much more sense for the Feds to introduce evidence related to 50's shooting into McGriff's trial as he is facing several murder counts,” Brown stated. “The Gotti’s, conversely, were simply charged with money laundering."
The Lorenzo’s have repeatedly denied involvement in 50 Cent’s shooting, which has been mythologized by 50 Cent himself in albums and in his film debut, “Get Rich or Die Tryin.”
McGriff is also charged with the slaying of another Queens, New York rapper, Eric “E Money Bags” Smith.
E Money Bags allegedly shot a close associate of McGriff’s, Colbert “Black Just” Johnson, who later died of his wounds.
Authorities contend that McGriff put E Money Bags under surveillance and later in 2001, gunman open fire on the rapper as he sat in his SUV parked on a Queens street, killing him instantly.
Federal prosecutors also plan to introduce evidence of other violent acts by McGriff and/or “The Supreme Team.”
Some of the evidence includes an incident where a man was thrown through a barbershop window, an incident where McGriff allegedly plotted to murder a woman pregnant with his child and an incident where McGriff allegedly ordered a man murdered for bumping into him at a nightclub.

Russell simmons Joins Fight For Tookie Williams
12.12.05 (8:47 am) [edit]
Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Action Summit Network (HSAN) recently appealed to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to spare Stanley "Tookie" Williams' life.
Williams, co-founder of The Crips gang, is scheduled to be executed tomorrow (December 13). Snoop Dogg and Jamie Foxx, who played the death row inmate in the biopic, Redemption, have also been pushing for Williams to be granted clemency.
The text of the HSAN's appeal was written December 1 and was recently released.
"It's only three days before the scheduled execution of Tookie Williams and we add our voices to the millions of people throughout the world who believe that clemency is not only appropriate, but also the most moral, humane and spiritual decision Governor Schwarzenegger could make," Simmons said via a statement on Friday (December 9).
In the letter, Simmons also mentioned that Williams, though a former gang leader, was able to turn his life around and provide positive guidance to youths that otherwise would have followed in his previously destructive footsteps.
Simmons pleaded that Tookie has been giving "love and meaningful life-lessons back to his community, and in this case to a community that desperately needs to overcome the decades-long miseries of poverty and ignorance."
After citing that Williams has received President George W. Bush's Volunteer Service Award and has been nominated for a Nobel Peace and Literature prizes, Simmons concluded by writing, "Williams' life should be spared so that he can continue from prison to help youth in impoverished communities develop constructively. The demands of justice and mercy should be served in this case with your act of clemency."
Last week, Gov. Schwarzenegger met with Williams and his attorneys. At press time, the governor had not made a decision regarding Williams' execution.
In related news, this weekend, reports surfaced that The Bloods, The Crips' rival gang, promised to surrender weapons if the governor accepted to grant Williams clemency.

GA Representative Proposes Tupac Bill To US Congress
12.02.05 (8:19 pm) [edit]

In the hopes of allowing the public access to details surrounding the life and death of Tupac Shakur, including government records, Georgia State Representative Cynthia McKinney has created the "Tupac Shakur Records Collection Act."
The bill is set to go before Congress and would require the National Archives to create a "Tupac Amaru Shakur Records Collection." Inspired by the "John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act," Congresswoman McKinney, the Democratic representative of the 4th District of DeKalb County, Georgia, based the act on the premise that "all government records related to the life and death of Tupac Amaru Shakur should be preserved for historical and governmental purposes."
Shakur was killed in September 1996 in a Las Vegas, NV drive-by shooting. Considered by many to be one of the greatest rappers of all time, Tupac's legacy includes outselling all other Hip-Hop artists, even after his death.
Shakur's memory continues to live on today, through the formation of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA). The institutions were established by Pac's mother, Afeni Shakur, and are both located in McKinney's district; Stone Mountain, GA.

Irv of Murder Inc Aquited of all Charges
12.02.05 (8:12 pm) [edit]

Jurors in Brooklyn have acquitted The Inc.’s Irving and Christopher Lorenzo of all counts of federal money laundering.
After two days of deliberation that cast the brothers’ fate in doubt, jurors sided with the defense and acquitted the Lorenzo’s on all charges of money laundering.
The acquittal of the Lorenzo’s ends a two year investigation that climaxed with the 2003 raid of The Inc.’s 825 8th Avenue offices in New York.
The government claimed the Lorenzo’s were laundering drug proceeds for convicted drug dealer, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff.
Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Sean Haran and Carolyn Pokorny claimed the brothers wrote numerous checks to McGriff, including two totaling $65,000 to McGriff’s company Picture Perfect Films, which was producing the movie “Crime Partners.”
McGriff owned picture perfect with Jon Ragin, who served as a government witness against The Lorenzo’s. Ragin confirmed the governments explosive claims that Ja Rule’s bodyguard, Robert “Sun” Lyons, shot 50 Cent in May 2000 and sought to have the information included in the Lorenzo's trial.
Ragin, like Donnell Nichols and Phillip Banks, claimed to have seen or delivered bags of McGriff’s drug cash to The Inc.’s offices.
Additionally, the government analyzed hundreds of text messages the brothers sent to McGriff, hoping to establish a connection to the brothers and McGriff’s illicit drug trade.
Attorneys Gerald Shargel and Gerald Lefcourt defended the brothers, claiming both were compulsive gamblers, who would bet hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time. – resulting in tens of thousands of dollars floating around The Inc.’s offices.
The defense said the brothers backed McGriff’s Picture Perfect Films legitimately and had not committed a crime in doing business with McGriff.
McGriff is facing the death penalty in a March 2006 racketeering and murder trial. In addition to drug and gun charges, McGriff is accused of two drug-related homicides in Baltimore, Maryland and the revenge slaying of rapper Eric "E Money Bags" Smith.
Shargel and Lefcourt also claimed that Darryl "Hommo" Baum shot 50 Cent in May of 2000 and pointed to 50's lyrics, as well as investigative work contained in the new book, "Queens Reigns Supreme: Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip Hop Hustler," by journalist Ethan Brown. The brothers' trial attracted a who’s who in the hip-hop community, including Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Fat Joe, Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen, Damon Dash, Minister Benjamin Chavis (Hip-Hop Summit Action Network) and others.
“This is a great victory for the entire culture of hip-hop,” Chavis told AllHipHop.com of the verdict. “Hip-Hop profiling in the case of Irv and Chris Gotti exposes why the government should not attempt to censors or harass poets, lyricists and music producers. Irv and Chris Gotti will emerge from this episode even stronger. Hip-hop summit action network salutes them on their victory.
